The Annual Pre-SHOT Show Wishlist - 2025 Edition

As the time comes for this years SHOT Show I am making my list of some things I would like to see from the industry for the 2025 SHOT Show as well as a few things I think they need to get away from. We had a great victory in the 2024 election and it would be a great time for the gun industry to capitalize. Things That I Would Like To See At SHOT Show 1. A 416 Barrett Option for the M107A1 I know this is a niche request as there are not many people like me who have the mighty Barrett M107A1. The 50 BMG round is awesome but the simple truth is that the 416 Barrett is better for long range shooting. That is why Barrett released their MRAD ELR in 416 Barrett instead of 50 BMG. I would love to have a 416 Barrett upper receiver for my M107A1. Since it will not need a brake that is nearly as extreme as a 50 BMG, how about you give it a 32" - 35" barrel? It would be heavy but would generate some crazy velocity and let us see just how 416 stacks up in a semi auto platform for ex...

I Was Wrong About The Elections, But Here Are Five Picks for New Gun Owners

Image
Well I couldn't have been more wrong about the election results. I predicted an unprecedented blue wave and what we got was an unprecedented red one. Of course, I am tickled to death that we are going to see fascism in the United States as I have been a proponent of American fascism on my Twitter and Facebook for some time. I could write a whole article on American fascism but I view it basically as a return to the Constitution as it existed at the time of the founding but with a few important tweeks: (a) a guarantee of a few additional human rights so that the worst impulses of fascism can be checked; (b) citizenship by blood rather than by land; and (c) a guarantee of one-party rule by the right. Of course, despite what people on the Internet think, we will not get this under President Trump. We will get four years of conservative leadership, there will be another election, and Trump will be flown back to Mar-a-lago for his retirement. Then a new president will be sworn in after ...

Five Choices for Pistol Caliber Carbines

I have always had a love-hate relationship with pistol caliber carbines. On one hand, these are very cool guns. On the other hand, they are extremely expensive for what they are. Now, for this article, I will not be talking about AR-15 or AK-47 type weapon systems that have been converted to fire pistol rounds. I will also not be talking about the conversion kits that are designed to add stocks to actual pistols. The focus of this article is my picks for the top five pistol caliber carbines for people to buy before the election. If one of these is on your gun bucket list, I don't have to tell you that now is the time to buy. So, without further ado: 5. FN PS90 (5.7mm). This bullpup designed PCC is unmatched in terms of firepower and compactness. It features a bullpup design with standard capacity magazines capable of holding 50 rounds of 5.7mm ammunition. So why it this weapon not higher on my list. Well, there are a number of issues with it. First and foremost is the ammunitio...

Making Glock Rock Again

As we are all aware, Gaston Glock went to be with the Lord several months ago. My love of Glock pistols has never been a secret as I am the type of man that always prefers substance over style. The problem facing Glock pistols in the market today it not one of functionality: they work and they have always worked. I continue to say to this day that the Glock 19 is the finest handgun that has ever been made. I use one as my daily carry gun because it offers the best combination of reliability, concealability, and capacity. While I am sure there are those out there who will say that Sig P365 would do the same thing in a smaller and lighter package - which may be true - I have been shooting Glocks for decades. Further, I have owned a P365 and know that I am faster and more accurate with the Glock 19. The caveat to this statement is that I have had more training with a Glock than with any other platform - so that should be the case. The Glock, of course, it not without its problems in th...

Be Prepared for What's Coming: Part 3 - Firearms and Receivers

Although it has not been long since the second post in this three-part series, the release of the new BATF rule concerning who qualifies as a gun dealer makes my planned article especially relevant. For that reason, I am publishing it early to ensure that people do not run afoul of the law. There is a lot of misinformation about this new rule and both sides think that this well require background checks on all gun sales. Well, I read the rule so that you don't have to and can state that this allegation - that the Biden administration has "closed the gun show loophole" is simply untrue. What the Biden administration has done is re-defined a gun dealer as a person who regularly engages in the sale of firearms for profit. These persons are now required to become federally licensed dealers or face criminal prosecution. However, the occassional sale of personal firearms, the sale of an entire collection, or an estate sale to dispose of the firearms of a deceased person would...

Be Prepared for What's Coming - Part 2: Magazines and Ammunition

I am going to preface this article with a disclaimer: I do not believe that a ban on ammunition is coming, that one will be proposed following Joe Biden's likely win in the 2024 election, or that nearly any court would uphold blanket ammunition bans as being constitutional. There is no impending ammunition ban. There is, however, and impending shortage of both ammunition and standard capacity magazines. That is the topic of this article. The truth about ammunition shortages in the 21st century is that they have been cyclical and have corresponded with federal elections. The first was in 2008 following the election of Barack Obama. I remember there being a major shortage of guns and ammunition for nine months following President Obama's election because people believed there would be a near immediate ban on firearms and ammunition. It turns out that Barack Obama was a political pragmatist: he remembered how the NRA was instrumental in the defeat of Al Gore in the 2000 election...

Be Prepared for What's Coming - Part 1: Handguns

It has become increasingly apparent to me that the United States is heading toward a second civil war regardless of the outcome of the 2024 election. The reason for this is simple: the two dominant political parties each offer a version of America that, to the other side, is a dystopian hellscape. Regardless of whether Biden or Trump prevails in the 2024 election (I put Trumps odds at less than 2%), you will want to prepare now for what is almost certainly coming in the aftermath. As a civilian, the first thing you will want is a solid handgun as that will be your primary means of self defense. However, simply having a handgun will not be nearly enough. You will need to train to become proficient with it and you will also need to make sure you have what you need to run it effectively. The left seeks to win a trifecta (the presidency, the house, and the senate) in 2024 and there is at least an 80% chance that they will be successful. We know that their idea of "saving democracy...
