Be Prepared for What's Coming - Part 1: Handguns
It has become increasingly apparent to me that the United States is heading toward a second civil war regardless of the outcome of the 2024 election. The reason for this is simple: the two dominant political parties each offer a version of America that, to the other side, is a dystopian hellscape. Regardless of whether Biden or Trump prevails in the 2024 election (I put Trumps odds at less than 2%), you will want to prepare now for what is almost certainly coming in the aftermath. As a civilian, the first thing you will want is a solid handgun as that will be your primary means of self defense. However, simply having a handgun will not be nearly enough. You will need to train to become proficient with it and you will also need to make sure you have what you need to run it effectively.
The left seeks to win a trifecta (the presidency, the house, and the senate) in 2024 and there is at least an 80% chance that they will be successful. We know that their idea of "saving democracy" is ensuring that Republicans are never able to win another election. You can bet your last dollar that the very first thing they will do is pack the Supreme Court with anti-white left wing activist judges to wipe out the gains in the judiciary that the right has fought for basically for as long as I have been alive. We can expect mass amnesty and citizenship to illegal aliens to dilute traditionally white and conservative voting blocks and give the left what, by now, is at least a 30 million vote advantage in future elections. We can expect statehood for Puerto Rico and Washington D.C. as a means through which to ensure that Republicans never again control the United States Senate. We can also expect a national ban on all semi-automatic firearms with mandatory buybacks - a law that will be upheld by a new leftist Supreme Court - and which will undoubtedly be the start of a new secession movement with broad support. When the communists on the left say they want to "save democracy" - what they really mean is that they want to use democracy to turn the U.S.A. into a communist country. American patriots must be ready to fight for their liberty.
The Application of the Handgun: When people say that they are going to "bug out" in the event of a second civil war or collapse, most of them are fooling themselves. The truth is that a war of this nature will involve most people "bugging in" and creating resistance in an urban environment. This means close quarters battle in confined spaces. It also means having a platform that is easily to conceal to that one cannot be readily identifiable as a combatant. While there are other platforms that offer better performance, we can speculate that the small size and concealability of a handgun will make it particular useful in a conflict of this nature. It's important that everyone has one that will set themselves up for success and which they are able to use effectively.
The Gun Itself: For the gun itself, I recommend the Glock 19. This particular firearm is the choice of special operators worldwide for every good reason in the world. It is reasonably compact, holds 15 rounds of 9mm in its magazine, is accurate, and features Glock's "to hell and back reliability". Of course there are other options from Glock to choose from (especially as of late). The Glock 17 or 47 remain a good choice if you prefer a full size handgun. The Glock 45 features a Glock 19 slide with a Glock 17 frame, while the new Glock 49 features the reverse of that (a Glock 17 slide with a Glock 19 frame). Of course, if you prefer a larger weapon, the Glock 34 remains a solid option. The reason I prefer Glock is simple: you will want no fewer than ten standard fifteen round magazines. Glock factory magazines are inexpensive and easy to find. Magpul also offers some budget options which I have found to feed and function reliably (although the Glock magazines are better at dropping free). If you are not a fan of Glock, there are some other reliable options. For those who prefer a SA/DA trigger and a steel frame, the Sig Sauer P226 or 229 are still great guns. Although I personally find it too bulky, the Beretta 92 series offers a very solid platform. Other reputable manufacturers aside from Glock, Beretta, and Sig Sauer include Springfield Armory, Walther, CZ, as well as Heckler & Koch. What you are looking for here is simple: a reliable compact to full size pistol chambered in 9mm with a magazine capacity of at least 15 rounds.
I would advise against "competition" pistols based on the 2011 platform because not only are the pistol and magazines very expensive but the weapons themselves are less reliable. I am not a Glock fanboy for no reason. The pistol you are buying it intended for rough use. You want something that's easy to work on, easy to find parts for, easy to maintain, and can take a lot of abuse. Glocks do all of that while maintaining accuracy. There is nothing wrong with a Sig P365 Macro (for example). However, if something happened to that pistol, you would likely need to find a gunsmith to repair it. The Glock might not be the prettiest dog at the show, but you can rest assured that it's a dog that will hunt.
The Accessories: Unfortunately, having a stock pistol is not enough. The first thing you will want to change on your pistol is the sights. Specifically, if it does not already come with them, you will want a set of tritium night sights for your pistol. They do not need to be expensive. I bought the night sights I use for all of my Glock pistols on Amazon for less than $60.00. I am providing the link here. I also don't particularly care for the stock trigger on a Glock. However, the end user can greatly improve their trigger pull simply by installing a 3.5# connector such as the very nice option from Lantac available on Amazon for less than $25.00 by clicking here, installing this $4.00 trigger spring (except on Gen5 Glocks) availablehere at MidwayUSA, and installing maritime spring cups (also available from MidwayUSA) at this link. I do not recommend changing the Glock striker or striker spring as this will reduce the reliability of the pistol. Of course, if you want to squeeze the most performance out of your Glock, the best I have found while maintaining reliability is McNally's Triggers. However, I do not use the striker spring they include in the package and I give a word of warning: these are extremely short and light triggers for a weapon that does not feature a fire safety so I would not recommend them for every day carry unless you're extremely experienced.
This is all you really need on your pistol. I like adding a "thug plug" and tungsten guide rod to my Glocks to balance them out and reduce felt recoil, but I do not consider this a necessity. One upgrade I do recommend is a threaded barrel for no reason other than the fact that many state assault weapon bans are classifying any pistol with a threaded barrel as an "assault weapon". I have used Lone Wolf to obtain threaded barrels for most of my Glocks and I have found their barrels to be excellent. The next thing you will want with your pistol is a flashlight. I do not like weapon mounted lights. They create more friction when drawning the gun from a holster and they can't be used to illuminate something that you may not want to point a gun at. I personally prefer this little light by Streamlight. It is a rechargable light with 350 lumens of power and works for me personally because I can carry it into a courthouse or on an airplane with no questions being asked of me. Is this light by Surefire significantly brighter? Yes. But I have never needed that level of brightness and it even tends to "wash out" my sights when I use it. Also, TSA and courthouse security officers have caught on to the fact that these flashlights are designed to double as impact weapons (so don't try getting them through security).
I spoke of magazines above and, even if you do not choose a Glock, these are things everyone really needs to stock up on before the election. The dirty little secret is that standard capacity magazines are what make our firearms so effective: that is precisely why the communists on the left are coming after them. I still have six thirty round Israeli Orlite magazines that I purchased during the ten years of tyranny between 1994 - 2004. These magazines are almost as old as I am. They still work and I still use them. I consider ten standard capacity magazines for your pistol to be a bare minimum. That allows me to carry three on me at all times and know I have seven spares at home in case one gets lost or broken. It should be noted that I have different rules for AR magazines and have an entire dresser drawer full of 20 - 30 round magazines for various platforms and applications. Remember: AmmoSeek.com allows you to search for magazines. While you need to be careful of shipping prices, this website is indispensible when it comes to locating some of the best deals on the Internet.
Obviously you will need a holster and a method of carrying spare magazines on your person. I leave this to personal preference with the caveat that you will want a holster designed for your handgun specifically (none of this universal holster crap) and you will probably only want a holster with passive retention. This will allow you to access your weapon quickly and effectively in a life or death situation.
Training: Your pistol is worthless to you without training. You will want to invest in training that goes well beyond what is taught in an NRA basic pistol course or a state mandated LTC or CHL qualification course. You will want to learn how to draw your pistol from a holster, present it on target, and engage a target effectively while maintaining situational awareness. As the name of the game is to kill the bad guy as quickly as possible, you will want to learn how to pivot and turret with a pistol, to shoot while moving different directions, to engage enemies from behind cover or from the ground, and even how to fight while wounded. Remember the flashlight? You will want to learn how to shoot a pistol while utilizing that flashlight. I would strongly encourage American patriots to put as much time and effort into pistol training between now and the 2024 election as possible. For those wondering why I am not emphasizing training with AR/AK platforms, the reason is simple: an AR or an AK is just a pistol with a stock and sometimes an optic. While the manual of arms for the platform will obviously be different, the broad fundamentals will not significantly change. I would expect a well-trained pistol shooter to be able to pickup an AR-15 - which is objectively an easier platform to shoot - and be able to handle such a platform competently.
Do not think that you will learn everything in one class. Train continuously. Train often. Do not underestimate the importance of dry fire practice. The time and money you spend training may, someday soon, be something your nation will thank you for.
My next article will be about the history of ammunition shortages (especially after elections) and the ammunition you should be stockpiling NOW.
