A Weekend of Learning and Fun

Image
The newly reincarnated Texas Marksmen had a great weekend of training at an undisclosed location in central Texas this weekend. Here are some of the drills we ran this weekend: Pistol Drill One - Countdown: All shooters will present on a target as the instructor counts down from ten. All shooters are to slowly, steadily, and continuously pull the trigger while keeping their sights aligned with their objective being for the trigger to break as the instructors says the number "one". Each shooter will then call their shot by telling the instructor which direction their front sight tip moved as the trigger broke and the round was fired. The instructor then starts again with a 9 second countdown, then an eight second countdown, and so on. Drill Two - Drawing: All shooters were taught the steps of drawing their weapon from a holster properly and taking a single shot and were then taught to bring all of those steps together so they would look smooth in drawing, presently, fi...

I Read The New Ghost Gun Rule So You Don't Have To

On August 24, 2022, a new regulation will go into effect due to an executive order made by the contemptible excuse for a human being elected to the White House by a horde or pampered millennials, stoned hippies, karens pissed off about mean tweets, and other assorted filth. It has come as no surprise to any gun owner that the Biden Administration launched an all-out assault on our 2nd Amendment rights in the form of executive action almost immediately upon taking office. The reason is really quite simple: Democrats want to completely disarm every American because it's damn hard to enslave people who are armed. This regulation is one of the consequences of having the White House occupied by a communist. However, there have also been a lot of mistruths spread about what is contained in the new rule which I feel need to be addressed by this article. I come today bearing good news: the final rule - while bad - is not nearly as horrible as what was proposed and provides some pretty good...

The Benefits of the Shotgun for Home Defense

There is a lot of love out there for the AR-15 - and for every good reason in the world because it's a fantastic weapon - but today we return to what for some is an aging relic of a bygone era: the shotgun. I am often asked why a shotgun is my go-to weapon for personal defense. There are good reasons for asking this question. A shotgun tends to be a long and unwieldy weapon while being somewhat limited by its ability to hold as much ammunition as an AR-15 or even a handgun. The answer I give to this question is a simple one: it's all about choosing the right tool for the right job. In a home defense situation, it's hard to go wrong with a shotgun. We will start by addressing some of the disadvantages of the shotgun. The biggest one is its capacity. Except for those interested in obtaining a tax stamp, paying a $200.00 sin tax, and waiting almost a year, the minimum legal length of a shotgun barrel is eighteen (18) inches while the minimum legal length for a rifle barrel is...

Top Five Handguns for Concealed Carry

As I have coached my own small group of students over the years, one of the questions I get most often relates to what handgun someone should buy. My answer has historically been the same: if you can only buy one handgun, you should buy a Glock 19. The Glock 19 is the goldilocks of handguns; it's just right. It's the jack of all trades and the master of none. While it is not the ideal size for a concealed carry pistol it is certainly one that will get the job done. It also has substantial firepower, giving its user a full fifteen rounds of 9mm to get the job done. The Glock 19 has been a favorite of police, military, and private citizen alike for decades and its popularity isn't going anywhere. But what if I was buying a gun just for concealed carry? I am going to get some haters for this article because there are no 380, 40S&W, 10mm, or 45 caliber weapons on my list. Why? First and foremost, the 380 is marginal at best as a pistol round and the 9mm packs more punch ...
